1. Save Money on Taxes .      With no state income tax, no tax on social security or pensions, and relatively low property taxes, retirees domiciling themselves in Nevada stand to save thousands per year. Smartasset.com has a convenient calculator to determine your savings. For a better understanding of what it means to "domicile" one's self in Nevada, visit Ashley Quinn CPA's website.

2. The Golf Season Lasts Longer .      With more than 300 days of sunshine per year, and a temperate climate, you can golf almost the whole year.  It does snow in Reno (less than 2 feet per year on average), but it doesn't stick around for long.

3. Reno Tahoe International Airport .      Many of my retired clients hang their hat in Reno, and use it as a jumping off pad for the retirement life many of us dream of -- flying to all the places we didn't have the time or money to visit during our professional years. With close to 150 daily flights and non-stop service to more than a dozen major US cities, the Reno airport makes it easy to hop out of town for a long weekend at your favorite destination.

4. Lake Tahoe .      Most of Reno is a 25-minute drive to Lake Tahoe with its year-round recreational opportunities. From boating in the summer to skiing in the winter, Reno residents can enjoy the snow without having to shovel it.

5. The People are Nice .      Sprawling over more than 100 square miles, Reno might feel like a big city to the first-time visitor, but with a population of less than a quarter million, it remains by many standards a small town where neighbors help each other and folks often know the name of their local grocery store clerks. Moving away from its reputation as a "casino" town, Reno has successfully experimented with hotels that feature no slot machines and no smoking, including the Whitney Peak Hotel, which boasts the tallest artificial climbing wall in the United States -- 16 stories high. And organic food restaurants are popping up around town, using locally grown produce & healthy ingredients.
