Hiking & Wildlife
Damonte Ranch was built in the 1930s when the Italian immigrant family for whom the region is named settled here to raise cattle and cultivate crops like alfalfa, wheat, oats and hay. The area is home to vast wetlands, which support a vibrant wildlife habitat, as well as migratory birds. The many walking trails through these neighborhoods are a year-round delight for bird watchers, and a nice oasis from urban life. Closer to the east, on BLM land, one often spots wild horses, a reminder of the beauty and bounty this part of Truckee Meadows has long offered.
Shopping & Dining
The charm of these south Reno neighborhoods is that you can enjoy both worlds here. Nature, wildlife, and Lake Tahoe are close at hand, and so is some of the best shopping and dinging in Reno. Home to the Apple Store, Dillard's, and other high-end retail, South Reno is almost like it's own urban shopping hub.
Architecture
While a few historic homes still dot the landscape of Damonte Ranch, most of the homes you will find here have been built in the late-1980s or 90s and later. The majority of homes here have stucco exteriors for low maintenance, with trussed roofs and vinyl windows. One and two-story designs are scattered throughout the community, with some 55+ neighborhoods like Caramella Ranch, featuring single-story floor plans.
