Somersett Homes for Sale

History of Somersett Real Estate

More than 20 years in the making, Somersett began to take shape around the development of its golf course. By 2004, when the first nine holes had opened for play, a handful of semi-custom homes had sprung up near the entrance to the community fetching prices approaching $2 million. Within a few years, larger builders like Toll Brothers and other developers arrived with subdivision-style homes at more affordable price points ranging from $600-800k.

The "Village" at Sommerset, a gated community of almost zero-lot-line homes with even more affordable price points, came next. But so did the recession. And some buyers who picked up those elegantly appointed "duets" for $150,000 (or less) back in 2011 could easily sell them today for twice that. The popularity of the "Village," a walkable community next to the Somersett clubhouse, led in later years to the development of the "Vue," a similar collection of nicely appointed homes on tiny lots near the top of Somersett.  The Vue homes are close to the California state line, and an easy commute to Truckee or Tahoe.

Resale options are plentiful at Somersett, with homes ranging from nicely appointed single-story models in the $600k range to the Toll Brothers model home at The Boulders priced north of $2 million.

Future of Somersett Real Estate

Construction continues today at Somersett, with both custom homes and national builders like Lennar and Toll Brothers carving out new clusters of semi-custom homes in the upper reaches of the development. From the cottage-style "duets," to its ridgetop masterpices, all homes in Somersett enjoy the privileges of the Club at Town Center, which offers a fitness center, swimming pool with cool design features for kids like the winding slide, tennis courts, and a 9-hole Tom Kite golf course. Residents enjoy 27 miles of hiking and biking trails that wind throughout the development as well as a local sushi bar and pub.

At build-out, Somersett will be more than 3,000 homes (many with sweeping views of the golf course or the neighboring Peavine mountains).  The community is about a half hour's drive from the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center, home to Tesla's new battery factory and dozens of other companies. With access to I-80 via Del Webb (the neighboring 55+ community) it's also a short drive to Tahoe/Truckee and all the skiing and other recreational opportunities Tahoe affords.
