Tahoe Donner's Cross Country ski center expects to be open through at least mid-April this season, thanks to record snowfall. Season passes go on sale March 15, and for just $314 pass holders can also ski for free this spring. (Homeowners enjoy discounted rates.)
With 38 miles of groomed trails, and access to one of the West's most pristine valleys, it's no wonder Tahoe Donner was recently voted one of North America's "best" for XC lovers. You have to experience Tahoe Donner's cross country center to appreciate its beauty. The trail network begins in an alpine meadow at the end of Alder Creek Road. Ambitious skiers (or hikers) can climb up to Hawk's Peak at 7,729 feet and skirt the saddle to Drifter Hut to catch unparalleled views of Donner Lake and the peaks of the Pacific Crest.
Those looking for less steeps can drop down into the Euer Valley for a tour past the historic ranch outposts that were once part of the Swiss family's summer cattle operations. Tahoe Donner made the wise decision to acquire much of the valley several years ago to protect it from development and ensure the longevity of the cross country ski access (which the family had previously leased to the homeowner association for winter-only access. The acquisition has opened up almost 500 acres of pristine terrain to mountain bikers and hikers through the fall and summer months.
With sunny days, and live music at the Trailside Bar from 5 - 8 p.m. every Saturday, Spring is probably one of the most fun seasons at the cross country center -- just one of many outstanding amenities Tahoe Donner offer...
