For the better part of the last century, Tahoe City has been one of the most popular Lake Tahoe destinations for dining, sight-seeing and recreation. A lot has changed since the early 1900s, when visitors arrived via steamboat and narrow guage rail to take in the view of the lake from the bar of the iconic Tahoe Tavern Hotel.  The elegant inn at the "Y" has long burned down, to be replaced by lakefront townhomes, and roadways have replaced the railroad tracks. Fun-seekers and homebuyers continue to flock here for the same reasons they did more than 100 years ago ... outstanding views of Lake Tahoe with lakeside dining, free outdoor concert venues, and connections to some of the best trails for day hikes, cycling or just relaxing with a float down the Truckee River.
