The New Face of Lahontan's Club
Lahontan is the oldest and most established of Truckee's gated golf course communities. That's reflected nicely in the architectural aesthetic of its Clubhouse and early designs, which are like the crossroads where Greene and Greene meet Big Mountain Lodge styling. It's a testament to the art and joinery of the Craftsman movement that will never entirely fall out of fashion. But the grand-daddy of Truckee's gated golf course communities was overdue a facelift. So two years ago, the Club embarked on a refresh.
Funded by a one-time Club Member assessment of $30,000, the renovations will include a remodel of the fitness center and the iconic Camp Lahontan, as well as substantial modifications to the Lodge with expanded casual dining and bar space, as well as re-imagined indoor/outdoor spaces for socializing like the one pictured below.

Q: How much does a Lahontan Golf Membership cost, and is it included in the price of home ownership?
A: Golf Memberships are sold as equity memberships (which means they can be resold if you move from Lahontan), and they are sold separately from your home ownership. Some members who have a Golf Membership to sell will include it in the sale of their home, but they will owe between 25-50 percent of the "value" of that membership to the Club when it transfers.
Q: What do the HOA fees cover in Lahontan, and do they include access to the pools and fitness center?
A: The Lahontan HOA fee does not include access to the swimming pools, fitness center or even dining. A social membership is required for access to these amenities.
How's the Market in Lahontan?
The first half of 2026 saw a solid pace of sales, with 8 homes changing hands and the median sales price shooting up to almost $5M (a record number). Through the end of June, Lahontan homes were selling in less than 2 months, also a strong indicator of buyer demand and smart pricing.
As summer approached, new inventory swelled. By summer's end, there were 17 homes for sale, many of them price reduced, and some that had been on and off the market for a year or more. With more to choose from, buyers could afford to be more discerning.
The overall market remained healthy, with 3 homes closing in July & August (a pace of sales on par with the first half of the year.) Median sales prices at Lahontan have risen steadily since the dips of the last big Recession, and if the spike in median sales prices remains consistent through the end of the year, home prices in Lahontan will close out 2026 with a record high of almost $5M. Where Is Lahontan? Location & Getting Here
Located in Truckee's historic Martis Valley, Lahontan is just a 5-minute drive from the Truckee Tahoe Airport and less than 10 minutes from world-class ski access at Northstar California Resort. The neighborhood is about a 3- to 4-hour drive from the San Francisco Bay Area, under 2 hours from Sacramento, and 30 minutes from Reno. About one in five homes here are occupied full-time, supported by commuter air options at the nearby Truckee Airport (a Surf Air destination in California) and regional schools like the Tahoe Expeditionary Academy K-12 campus.
Lahontan Homes & Architecture
Situated on the valley floor near the base of Northstar, Lahontan has an expansive feel, but it is a tight-knit community of just over 500 homesites planned around the winding greens of its championship golf course. A private clubhouse at the start of the course features a bar, elegant dining room and fitness center. The Craftsman-style Lodge designed by noted Tahoe architect Greg Faulkner is a masterpiece that pairs natural materials like granite, big beams, and forged steel with elegant finish carpentry. It's a style reminiscent of Greene & Greene and the late 19th Century Arts & Crafts movement, and a style that for years laid the foundation for many of Tahoe's most beautiful estate properties.
History of Lahontan Golf & Country Club
Lahontan was developed in the late-1990s, and it launched a trend in Truckee resort living that helped propel the success of other popular resorts like neighboring Martis Camp and Schaffer's Mill. The Clubhouse and Lodge are reminiscent of old Julia Morgan and Greene & Greene designs featuring big timbers and large granite boulders. Timeless as it might seem, the Craftsman-style homes that defined the architecture of "Old Tahoe" has given way to a more modern aesthetic featuring flat roofs, exposed steel, and what I like to call "Complex Simplicity." Lahontan was slower than some communities to embrace the more contemporary designs, but newly built homes there in recent years are almost all moving in that direction. Some new builds in Lahontan employ the old world look of gabled, steep pitched roofs and wide shiplap wooden siding on the exterior, with more contemporary, cool palettes on the interior. But a few (and not coincidentally, the most expensive) showcase walls of glass or steel, flat roofs, and exposed I-beams.
