Big Snow: Where's My Plow?
Big swings also make for some unpredictability in winter. With average snowfall in the range of 18 feet per season (and a single storm easily dumping five feet or more), you will have a few days a year when you can't leave your home till the city plows arrive (and if you're a vacation homeowner, that also means you wont' be able to get "to" your home unless you planned to arrive in advance of a storm). 
Encompassing more than 11 square miles -- with more than 1,000 foot elevation gain over downtown Truckee -- Tahoe Donner "weather" can vary widely from lower neighborhoods along Schussing or Sitzmark to higher areas like the top of Skislope or Pinnacle Loop (where I live).
